In today's episode, we cover a surprising Mozilla Foundation report released this Valentine's Day studying 11 "AI girlfriend chatbots" and how these "AI soulmates" are stealing data from users. Hear about the risks that these chatbots pose to users – with over 1M users on just one AI girlfriend chatbot alone, though, there is massive demand for them.
We also cover breaking news in AI: how OpenAI announced the release of Sora, a new AI model that can create realistic and imaginative scenes from text instructions; and Google's release of Gemini Ultra, the first model to outperform human experts on MMLU (massive multitask language understanding) – also the largest and most capable AI model released by Google yet.
Listen in for an action-packed episode!

This episode is a recording from a live talk Julia McCoy gave to three college classes at Concordia University Texas in Austin, TX on February 8, 2024. In this talk, a blend of teaching by Julia on AI content, Content at Scale case studies, and how to implement AI successfully into marketing – plus brand new information from AI studies predicting the future – students heard how AI is set to automate almost every human task, not just content, and how they can pivot and adapt to the future by leaning into critical thinking skillsets to become the human that uses AI, instead of fearing it and avoiding it. Enjoy the recording!

In this episode, we're starting off with the reason why an AI company (ours) decided to work in-person and move to Arizona rather than work remotely.
Next, Jeff brings up what a columnist recently said on Search Engine Land about SEO not getting replaced by generative AI tools. Julia brings up why it's critical for listeners to be aware that headlines like these are simply points of view – and not the reality of an industry (Artificial Intelligence) capable of greater, faster strides in innovation than any industry has EVER experienced in the history of the world.
Plus - what Jeff and Julia think about the explosion of "boxes on faces," seen all over Instagram, Facebook and X by Julia over the weekend. The "box on face" is referring to headsets; specifically, the Vision Pro, Apple’s new “spatial computing: headset that blends AI, augmented reality, and a number of other technologies to create a device that represents Apple’s boldest new product since the iPhone. Social media platforms are full of users raving about how realistic the visuals look, how intuitive the hand gestures feel, and how immersive and novel the entire experience feels. “I think it’s not evolutionary; it’s revolutionary,” said Titanic and Avatar director James Cameron. “And I’m speaking as someone who has worked in VR for 18 years.” But will it remove human connection and negatively affect our social relationships? This is a question we debate at length.
We also cover tools that are coming on the scene to help protect artists' work, the capabilities of the Tesla Cyber Truck, and more.

On this episode:
Imagine waking up to the police knocking at your door, informing you that you’re under arrest for armed robbery. That’s exactly what one man experienced when he was falsely accused due to faulty AI-based facial recognition.
This episode is packed with AI mishaps, and it’s a great lesson on why YOU need to be in the driver's seat with AI. You should never blindly trust the results you get back from AI.
Also in this episode:
Jeff is mortified by Julia's absence for an episode and takes that opportunity to share his 2024 Viral AI content strategy and LinkedIn strategy.
After recording, Jeff thought about ways to clone Julia into an AI companion for situations like these. Unfortunately, we’re still a ways off from seeing that come to fruition.

Imagine a world where people can control a computer cursor or keyboard using their thoughts alone. In breaking news, the first human has received a neural implant from the controversial brain chip startup Neuralink, with Musk tweeting on Sunday: "The first human received an implant from Neuralink yesterday and is recovering well. Initial results show promising neuron spike detection.”

Musk announced Monday, January 29, 2024 that the first Neuralink product is called Telepathy and initially used by people who have lost the ability to use their limbs. To integrate Musk's chip, a human surgeon is tasked with cutting a small hole into the patient’s skull, after which a 7-foot-tall robot named “R1" is responsible for carrying out the “ultra delicate” procedure of suturing the electrified wires of the company’s implant directly into the person’s brain. Musk initially wants to focus on addressing mental and physical maladies and quadriplegics, and eventually, pivot to creating new forms of cybernetic “enhancements” for everyday people—what Musk has referred to as transhumanist “brain hacking.”

Competitors are already popping on the scene for brain implants with AI (China has set 2025 as its timeline to develop its own “brain-computer interface”).

What's the moral dilemma behind "transhumanism" and other forms of body modification with AI? Julia and Jeff go there in this episode. Where we will be be in just a few more years? With AI racing ahead unlike technology has ever done, there's no telling what's going to be possible soon.

We also cover how Barcelona is trying to create its digital twin with AI through MareNostrum 5, its supercomputer unveiled in December that has the ability to perform 314 million billion calculations per second housed inside of a chapel.

In breaking news, a new open-world game called Palworld launched in early access over this past week and sold four million copies in just three days - reaching a Steam concurrent player peak of over 1.2 million users overnight, giving it the highest concurrent player peak for a paid game (ever). However, serious allegations of AI usage and plagiarism claims have been directed at Palworld. In today's episode, we discuss a critical topic: intellectual rights and authorship around AI-generated content, how that affects creators, writers, and communicators, and how institutions and legislation will respond to try to stay a step ahead.
Also covered: OpenAI bans long-shot presidential candidate bot for breaking T&Cs, BrightEdge's study of a billion queries across nine industries and how healthcare is most impacted by SGE, Pentagon testing tomorrow’s AI-powered swarm drone ships, chatbots gone rogue, and more.
Finally, throughout this episode Julia shares an innovative way to mention a sponsor: a "sarcastic sponsor read," 100% written by AI. It's awkwardly full of hilarity and ridiculousness. Enjoy the experience that awaits. For the show notes, visit https://contentatscale.ai/podcast/

In breaking AI news on Friday, January 19, 2024, OpenAI acquired its first higher education customer: Arizona State University (ASU). ASU is leading the AI revolution in education by bringing ChatGPT to their researchers, staff and faculty, specifically planning to empower educators to use ChatGPT to build personalized AI tutors and offer writing help to students – starting in their largest class, Freshman Composition. Jeff and Julia explore this exciting development in education and how this will impact education as we know it, in Episode 3 of Future Tense.
Also covered: Jeff explores the power of Samsung's new-built in AI in Galaxy S24 Series. Jeff and Julia mourn over their diehard adherence to Apple products, and hope that Apple leaps forward soon to match the exciting Android AI world. At the World Economic Forum (WEF) this January, AI had a key seat at the table. State leaders, global institutions, and tech titans gathered to discuss how AI could impact the economy—and Sam Altman had some spicy takes: He said that AGI is coming in the “reasonably close-ish future," but also thinks that it “will change the world much less than we all think.” Plus, Meta is developing open source AGI, says Zuckerberg.

In this episode, Jeff discusses a major release at CES: the Rabbit R1, an AI-powered gadget that can use your apps for you. OpenAI launched their GPT store where anyone can release, publish, and sell a Custom GPT early January of 2024; Julia debugs why CustomGPTs aren't the end-all, be-all of generating content as some might think, and potential dangers when creating yours. Then, Julia and Jeff discuss Norwegian AI robotics startup 1X Technologies AS, which secured $100M in its Series B funding for the development of domestic humanoid robots. Hilarity ensues as the co-hosts discuss what they would rather have: a robot folding laundry (Julia), or robots fighting in a cage match (Jeff).
For the last 30 minutes, special guest Simon Ogilvie-Lee, Director of UX at Content at Scale, joins to talk all about his role in AI, how he's been obsessed with AI and what he sees regarding the future of work and how AI will impact everything we know, as we know it.

An IBM study published in the fourth quarter of 2023 surveying 3,000 C-level executives across 28 countries and 21,000 workers in 22 nations found that 40% of all workers will have to reskill. That’s a whopping 1.4 billion folks. In January of 2024, the largest study of its kind on the state of how AI will impact society was published, and 2,700+ researchers declared: “if science continues undisrupted, the chance of unaided machines outperforming humans in every possible task was estimated at 10% by 2027, and 50% by 2047.”
Jeff and Julia, co-hosts of Future Tense, dissect this groundbreaking revolution and the emphasis of how AI will forever impact work in Episode 1 of Future Tense, an AI podcast. Subscribe to catch all future episodes!
